Persona 4 golden voice actors9/25/2023 ![]() I see that there is an option in the Sound menu to turn the volume for voices all the way down, and I may do that so I can finally proceed and enjoy the game as if it were a 16-bit era RPG. I'm not exaggerating when I say I feel it's some of the worst voice acting I've heard in a game for the past ten years or so. I've heard so many great things about the game and am enjoying the story in the first few hours (what the hell is going on with these murders? I want to know more!), but I can't help but wonder why the terrible voice acting isn't mentioned more. Daniel Woren is the English dub voice of Igor in Persona 4: Golden, and Isamu Tanonaka is the Japanese voice. How hard is it to get the pronunciation for these few words right? Other times people are saying "I-nuh-buh" for Inaba, and stuff like that. They are way too inconsistent all around. I don't know if her voice actress is just not very good or what, but it's not working and every time she speaks I cringe.Īnother major issue is the pronunciation of Japanese words and names. ![]() She clearly sounds like a grown woman trying to speak like a child, which is usually the case, but it's way too obvious here. (note: I found a video on youtube of this scene from the PS2 version and it sounds totally different and not nearly as bad, so I guess they changed voice actresses?) Her "MY TRIAL OF THE DRAAAAAAGOOOOOOON" line was so bad, I shut the game off for weeks right after she uttered it. Every time she speaks, I can almost see the voice actress flailing her arms, TRYING to sound like she's in the scene and exuding Chie's personality, but it's just grating and insincere. Voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, Yu does not say much, outside of combat grunts and taunts, which leaves the actor with little to do when compared to the other actors. This is especially notable in more "emotional" or "energetic" characters. 12 Johnny Yong Bosch (Yu Narukami and Tohru Adachi) Every story needs a protagonist, and the taciturn Yu is the hero of Persona 4. Persona 4: The Animation (2012 TV Show) Chie Satonaka. Persona 4: Golden (2012 Video Game) Chie Satonaka. As stated above, I didn't consumed any of the other Persona 4 media with this voice actor, but I still don't see how is it relevant to my statement that the original VA was way better than the current one. Voice Actors Characters TV Shows Movies Video Games Shorts Attractions Commercials. My main issue is the forced quality of so much of the delivery. In og ps4 Chie was voiced by Tracey Rooney, and Erin Fitzgerald did all the voicework afterwards. Teddie also has a new voice actor, but there're any noticeable difference. She's energetic and a far better VA in general. I've tried three times to get into the game over the past several years, and every time I stop playing because of the terrible voice acting. Jfray 1:30pm I also played the ps2 version before golden, She just doesn't sound like a middle aged woman anymore. Now, with Persona 4: Golden, there is no choice, outside of importing the game, which I don't really feel like doing, especially considering the amount of text-only dialogue there is (kanji is not my strong point). With Dragon Quest, I had a choice and went with English over the Japanese. I've played several games recently with English voice acting, from Dragon Quest Heroes to Conception II and had no problem with them. Yes, I have lived in Japan for eight years of my life and understand the language fairly well, but am open to English voice acting in Japanese games when done well. ![]() I do hear the same muffling of the audio as with Chie, however - though I am an audiophile, so it'd only bug similarly crazy people.First, let me just say that I'm not a Japanese/sub snob. Think the same voice as the other one, but with less effort put in - it's as if the original performer had to stress his voice to "make" Teddy and somehow this time around they just found someone who sounds like what he was aiming for, so it comes off naturally. On a related note, Teddy's new voice actor is fantastic. The new VO sounds a bit muffled - odd, as new lines in the game sound fine, it's just the new Chie that I've noticed the problem with. Delivery barely comes into it.Īlso, the mix isn't quite on - everyone else is breathier and sharper on the highs. It may be a person-to-person thing, but I'm worried I can't relate to the new Chie as much as with the old one, purely for the reason of my not liking people with that type of voice. I hate the lisp with a passion - but then, when she says a comedic line it actually delivers better than the old Chie. I'm only an hour in thus far, but the new actress is doing a decent job of it.
